NOTES:

To create the color layout shown, please see the yarn list above to see which end of the skein to pull from in each color. For other colors, you’ll need to decide which end to pull from to get the look desired. The yarn used for this hat was left over after making the Big Checked Crochet Scarf.

If you would prefer to not use the FDC stitch, you can instead work Row 1 as follows: With Color B ch 9, with Color A ch 9, skip the ch closest to the hook, sc in next ch, dc in next 8 chs, with Color B dc in last 9 chs; turn. (18 sts)

If you would prefer to not use the CSDC and/or STDC stitch, you can use a ch 3 or dc substitute of your choice. Instead of STSC, (join with a sl st, ch 1, and sc) in the indicated st.

When switching colors, finish the last st of the previous st with the new color.

This pattern is worked with 2 colors in each row. Leave each color hanging from its last stitch unless otherwise instructed, and pick it back up for that color in the next row.

Be sure to weave in all ends into the same colored stitches.

Always skip the top of a stitch that a post stitch is worked around to avoid increasing the stitch count.
