What: Pick Your Projects with Crochet is a choose-your-own-adventure affair – an immersive retreat for creative spirits who want to learn, connect, and make beautiful things with their hands. Hosted by myself and Joleen Emery of Big Raven Farm, this weekend is all about following your curiosity and enjoying the process – and spending time together!

When: Arrive on Thursday, October 23rd, and settle in for our welcome dinner and special swap. We’ll spend Friday and Saturday eating, crafting, and enjoying Big Raven Farm together. Sunday morning, we’ll wrap up and depart with memories of a wonderful experience – and hopefully, plans to do it all again!
Where: Big Raven Farm is a unique destination here in the Midwest, located in the Driftless region – where Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa meet. This area was untouched by the most recent glacial period, leaving its landscape largely unchanged from before the last ice age. It’s a stunning and too often overlooked part of the country, and Big Raven Farm is an amazing way to experience it.Â
This 15-acre retreat center features 6 charming and comfortable rooms, surrounded by the serene landscapes. The rooms are equipped with all the modern amenities (including great wifi!) to ensure a restful night’s sleep. During your time there, take advantage of the on-site hiking trails, sprawling porches, inviting patios, and yoga studio. Craft – and relax – at your own pace!

Expert-led workshops and demonstrations:
This weekend is all about following your curiosity and enjoying the process. You’ll choose from a curated menu of project options in both crochet and paper arts. Want to make an adorable animal squishy or a big chunky pumpkin? I will be there to guide you through it. More drawn to intricate folding, layering, and storytelling through paper? Joleen has you covered. Each project listing includes the supplies you’ll need to bring—your hosts will offer instruction, inspiration, and one-on-one support throughout the weekend.
There’s no set order or pressure to finish. Start where you feel inspired, take breaks when you like, and follow your creative energy. If you complete one project and want to start another, you’re welcome to keep going while others are still stitching, folding, or assembling.

Deer, turkeys, pheasants, grouse, foxes, raccoons, opossums, and turtles are all commonly spotted, and if you listen closely, you’re likely to hear coyotes calling back and forth across the valley after sunset. If we’re lucky enough to get clear skies, there should be fantastic stargazing.
Daily farm-to-table breakfast, lunch, and dinner:
Enjoy delicious gourmet meals prepared by Darin Warling, the executive chef at Big Raven Farm, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Their farm-to-table dining experience caters to all dietary preferences and requirements! (Just let them know ahead of time, please!)
