My Notes: The Blue Cascade Afghan Square is gorgeous, interesting to crochet, and wonderful to make, thanks to the skill of Julie Yeager! Julie is a fabulous block designer and her squares are always a treat. There is a lot of room here to play with colors, but I didn’t really take any notes – it’s so well written you can jump right in! There are lots of stitches, so be sure to check the special stitches section and the helpful links below.

Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations, Chainless Starting Double CrochetStanding scStanding dc, Third Loop Crochet, Post Stitches, Puff Stitches, and seamless join.

Sizing: My square was running a little big, so I worked the last rnd in hdc instead of dc – and that worked great! But everyone’s gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.

Yarn Options: This year, our designers have chosen from a variety of yarns, including Brava WorstedSwish WorstedJimmy Beans Wool BeanstalkBerroco Vintage, and MadTosh Vintage. For this square, I used Brava Worsted, and Julie used Berroco Vintage!

What I Did:

I used a US-J, 6.0 mm crochet hook, and Brava Worsted yarn, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

Rnd 1: Fig
Rnds 2 and 3:
Espresso
Rnds 4 and 5:
Seashell
Rnd 6:
Espresso
Rnd 7:
Custard
Rnd 8:
Denim
Rnd 9:
Fig
Rnd 10:
Denim
Rnd 11:
Custard
Rnd 12:
Seashell
Rnd 13:
Espresso
Rnd 14:
Cream

This square didn’t really require much blocking, but I used the wet blocking method to make it perfect!
