My Notes: The Seven Deadly Sines Square is worked in rows, using stitches of varying heights to create this pleasing, undulating design. There is a lot of room here for color play – will you change colors more often? Less often? We’re going to see lots of interpretations and I’m looking forward to it! But I do have a couple of important notes on this pattern.

One thing we learn through things like this CAL is that designers each have their own gauge – as do all of you! ♥ Kelly has a particularly tight gauge, so in order to make my square the proper size, I needed to remove an entire stitch repeat – in this pattern, that’s 10 stitches. With 31 stitches, my square was just the right size! So I recommend that you be sure to stop and measure your square after Row 2, to see if you need to do the same.

As an experienced crocheter, I also decided to make the first row using foundation stitches, rather than working into a chain. This allowed me to easily adjust the size as described above. You can do the same with the help of this video tutorial – but it’s *totally* optional.

Finally, I recommend you use stitch markers in each sc and ttr, and move them up through each row as you work. I makes it a lot easier to keep track of where you are in the pattern!

Sizing: As mentioned above, I dropped the stitch count down to 31, and with that change the sizing was right at 12″. But everyone’s gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.

What I Did:

I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

Setup and Rows 1 -2: Black
Rows 3 and 4:
Merlot
Rows 5 and 6:
Mallard
Rows 7 amd 8:
Black
Rows 9 and 10:
Cornsilk
Rows 11 and 12:
Boysenberry
Rows 13 and 14:
Black
Border:
Black

This square required a moderate blocking, so I used the wet blocking method
