Lamb Crochet Square – Repeat Crafter Me

March came in like a Lion and out like a Lamb! It’s already April and I’m happy to show you the 4th square in my Animal Square CAL! This little lamb is simple, sweet and ready to complete in no time at all. Sticking with the Red Heart Super Saver line of yarn, I chose the buff beige color for the background but you could make the background gray, or maybe more of a yellowish cream color, pink, or how about a black sheep?! I promise you that the squares are going to be brighter and colorful. Also keep in mind the placement of these squares in your blanket. The lamb will be under the polar bear so you may not want to use white and gray again.

As I was writing this post, I decided the lamb needed a smile. Feel free to make yours any way you’d like!

If you aren’t familiar with my Animal Square CAL you can read all about it HERE.

Each month (January through December of 2023) I will post a new Crochet Animal Square.  These are simple crochet squares that are embellished with adorable animal faces! These squares work up quickly and won’t take you more than an hour or two. This project is extremely beginner friendly and you can add more or less embellishments. Customize to your liking!

At the end of the year, I will be stitching these all together to make a blanket! But they could also be turned into a pillow(s), a scarf, or any other creative way you’d like to use them.

It’s never too late to start!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Buff Beige, White, and Baby Pink. You will also need a bit of black yarn for the mouth.
Shop all these colors RIGHT HERE on Yarnspirations.com <—-
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Two 12mm black safety eyes (optional)
– Tapestry Needle

First let’s make the Square:
With buff beige yarn
Chain 21, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-23: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
now continue making a SC in the 3 sides (2 Chains in each corner)
join in white yarn, fasten off beige, SC in each stitch all the way around 4 sides making 2 SC in each corner.

Fasten off weave in ends.

Note: It’s a good idea to measure your square so you know it is in fact square after row 23. Add more or less rows to accommodate if needed. We all crochet with a different tension so size can vary.

Head fluff:
with white yarn
Chain 13, SC in second chain from hook, SC, HDC in next two, DC in next 4, HDC in next two, SC in next, 2 SC in last, now working on opposite side of chain, SC in first two, HDC in next two, DC in next 4, HDC in next two, SC in next two, 2 SC in last, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: skip first stitch, 6 DC all in next stitch (one scallop made), skip next stitch, join to next with a slip stitch, skip a stitch, repeat from * all the way around and join to bottom of first scallop. You should have made 7 scallops.
Fasten off leaving long tail.
Stitch to top of square. No need to sew down the scallops. Let them pop up!

Ears (make 2):
Starting with baby pink yarn
Chain 6, SC in second chain from hook and in the next 3, make 2 SC in last chain
now work your way up the other side of the chain with SC’s (5 SC), join to first SC with white yarn and fasten off pink yarn, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in the first two stitches, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 SC in next 6 stitches, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 DC in last two stitches, join, fasten off leaving long tail.
Pinch the skinny part of ear together when stitching to square. Stitch on either side of the bottom of the head fluff.

Nose:
with pink yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join to first SC, pull tight.
Stitch onto middle of face and add some details with black yarn. Make a “v” a the bottom of the pink nose and then a line of black yarn coming straight down from the middle bottom of nose. Add a smile if desired!

What do you think? With (above picture) or without (below picture) the smile?
