Knitted Shawls with Lacy Edgings – Free Patterns

In knitting, finishing the piece is very important, so edges and borders come in handy when you need them. This selection of the best ideas and patterns for lacy edgings will be right up your alley!

Knitted shawls and knitting edges patterns can be breathtaking pieces of art, because they are intricate and often made with fine elegant yarns of good quality. They come in all shapes and sizes, so be it crescent, triangle or rectangle. One thing I love the most is the finishing – lacy edgings add character and sophistication! Whether it’s just delicate scalloped edging or thick intricate border, I love seeing what other designers come up with. Such shawl will be an elegant accessory, because it will elevate your outfit to the next level. You can easily add lace edging to other pieces, too, such as handkerchiefs or garments. Take a look at the examples below and search for links to free patterns under the pictures.

Haruni Shawl Version

Lacy knitted shawls can be fun, too! Take a look at rkcpi’s version of a classic pattern and see how a bunch of colors can totally transform the design. Although there’s no info about the yarn used, I’d guess that it’s ombre yarn, and not individual colors. See how the stripes of colors become wavy towards the edge? Cute!

Flowers for Britt – Edging With Flowers and Fans

Lacy edging of flowers and fans, which you can see below, is one of the loveliest designs I’ve found in this category. Pleuny used simple white yarn to make this lacy beauty, but one thing is certain with this design – it needs blocking! What does it mean? Well, you need to sprinkle it with water and fix it in place, pinning down all the parts, so that it becomes symmetrical.

Openwork isn’t hard to make, but it definitely requires some patience and care after you’re done. Purity – Aeolian Shawl

Sometimes details are the most visible on pure background, and this project proves that right! Turquoise Path – Aeolian Shawl

Name of this project may be misleading at first, because all we can see is rich brown yarn and intricate structures. When you take a closer look, however, you can see little turquoise beads hiding in the openwork – cleverly weaved in by opipipio. This version of Aeolian uses thicker yarn and looks more solid, but intricate edging looks as beautiful as it always does in this project.
