Hello, my lovely friend! Today, I have an elegant, flowing knitted shawl pattern for you. This stunning shawl features an easy openwork design, which is so very pretty! I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about this week’s gorgeous shawl!
Pranayama was designed by Amy Mercier. When asked about her pattern, Amy said, “Pranayama is a yoga breathing technique that’s also known as the breath of life. Your breath fuels your body, and focused deep breathing helps to calm the mind and nervous system. I created this simple lace shawl as a wonderfully meditative project to work on. The design incorporates three repeating stitch sections to represent the inhale, hold, and exhale of your breath. The ‘inhale’ and ‘exhale’ sections become longer as this shawl grows. As you knit this piece, you should be reminded to always go back to your breath when life becomes overwhelming or even if you just need to take a break and recenter yourself before you go about your day.”
“Inhale, hold, exhale… repeat.”
This Adventurous Beginner level pattern is for knitters who have some experience knitting simple lace patterns and want to develop their ability to create consistent tension with lace. The pattern includes written instructions only, as well as a schematic, and comes with a video tutorial.
Pranayama is knitted with our luxurious Pearlescent Fingering yarn, which is a 50:50 blend of Superwash Merino Wool and Mulberry Silk. Smooth with a gorgeous gleam! When you combine these fibers into a single-ply yarn, you get subtle differences in tone, as the wool and silk take the dye differently. Colors dyed onto this yarn base are super rich and saturated and appear iridescent and otherworldly! Pearlescent Fingering is a dreamy, fingering weight yarn that’s ideal for next-to-skin accessories like cowls, shawls, scarves, hats, and more! Unbelievably soft with a lovely drape and a shine that just won’t quit and 550 yds/503 m per skein!
The sample shown here was knitted with two skeins of Blue Hydrangeas Pearlescent Fingering and used approximately 743 yds (679 m) total.
We filmed a video tutorial showing how to get started knitting this shawl. Take a look!
