Hello, my lil’ snickerdoodle! Today, I have a forest inspired, knitted shawl pattern that I’m delighted to share with you! Keep reading to learn all about this week’s lovely design!
Anatine was designed by Janica York Carter. When asked about her pattern, Janica said, “The two stitch patterns in this wrap combine in a stylistic representation of the amazing tall pines of the Pacific Northwest. The ribbed columns are reminiscent of bark on sturdy trunks, while the triangles remind me of children’s first drawings of trees. You can choose to work just one of the two patterns if you prefer. You can also simplify the edges by replacing the eight patterned stitches at the beginning and end of each row with knit stitches to create a garter-stitch border instead”
“The written instructions look long, but that’s only because they include row-by-row color changes to create the gradual color blends shown in the sample piece. If you aren’t blending colors, just repeat the first two rows of the Columns Pattern and the first 20 rows of the Triangles Pattern. The charts show the 19-stitch repeat for both patterns and include the border pattern as well.”
This Adventurous Beginner level pattern is suitable for beginning knitters who are ready to combine knit and purl stitches to create textural patterns. Techniques include slipping stitches and alternating colors.
Anatine is knitted with our luscious Buttery Sport yarn, which is squishy, bouncy, and buttery! What’s not to love about this super soft, lush, and cuddly sport-weight yarn that’s also machine washable? Made from 100% Superwash Superfine Merino Wool, this two-ply yarn produces fat, full stitches! No itchiness or scratchiness here! Use this fun, boingy yarn to make soft, supple projects that work up quickly. Buttery Sport has 300 yds/274 m per skein.
Our sample was knitted with the Paradiso Hues Buttery Sport Kit and used approximately 1380 yds/1260 m total: Color A: 275 yds/253 m, Color B: 275 yds/253 m, Color C: 275 yds/253 m, Color D: 275 yds/253 m, and Color E: 270 yds/248 m.
We made a video tutorial showing how to work the Beginning Border and Column Pattern. Take a look!
