About this Pattern
If you’re looking for an easy baby blanket you can finish pretty quick but you want something more interesting than just a back and forth stitch pattern, you’re in the right place. Our easy crochet baby blanket still uses just one stitch but breaks it into four blocks for a little more interest, both for your eyes and your hands.
With this project you’ll get to practice one of the most basic yet still beautiful crochet stitches, the half double crochet. It’s a tall enough stitch to make this baby blanket work up quick but not so tall that little fingers and toes will get caught between them. You’ll work the stitch through the back loop only, creating a beautiful texture that’s stretchy and comfy to snuggle under.

Written Instructions
Block 1
Row 1: Ch 78. Hdc in 2nds ch from hk and in each rem ch. Ch 1 and turn. (77 sts)
Row 2: Hdc tBLO of first st. *Hdc tBLO of next st. Rep from * to end of row. Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat: Rep last row until work is a perfect square. (To check, fold one corner to the next. If it aligns, it is a perfect square).
Fasten off.
Block 2
Row 1: Rotate block 1 until the one of the side edges is at the top. Fasten on in the corner. Evenly space 77 hdc along side edge.
Row 2: Hdc tBLO of first st. *Hdc tBLO of next st. Rep from * to end of row. Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat: Rep last row until you have the same number of rows as block 1.
Block 3
Row 1: Rotate block 1 and 2 until the one of the side edges of block 2 is at the top. Fasten on in the corner. Evenly space 77 hdc along side edge.
Row 2: Hdc tBLO of first st. *Hdc tBLO of next st. Rep from * to end of row. Slst to st of block 1. Ch 1 and turn.
Note: You will need to evenly space the slip stitches to block 1 so you have the same number of rows as the other blocks. Skipping 2 stitches almost every time will set you up for success.
Repeat: Rep last row until you have the same number of rows as blocks 1 and 2.
Block 4
Row 1: Situate work so you can fasten on in the corner of block 3. Evenly space 77 hdc along side edge.
Row 2: Hdc tBLO of first st. *Hdc tBLO of next st. Rep from * to end of row. Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat: Rep last row until you have the same number of rows as blocks 1, 2 and 3.
Slst along border of block 1 and 4 as shown in the diagram to finish. Fasten off and weave in ends.
