The Details

My Notes: The Checkered Granny Crochet Blanket Square is a fun square with lots of color patterning possibilities. I chose to carry the yarns along the back, so I only had 6 ends to weave in. However, you can see this a bit on the back, so if you want the back of the square to be “perfect” you’ll need to break the yarn between colors. Lindsey has included some helpful notes throughout the pattern, so be sure to read everything as you go!

Helpful Links and Tutorials: Magic Circle, CSDC, Tr – Treble Crochet, and Seamless Finishing.

Sizing: My square was just a tiny bit small, so I worked Rnd 11 with hdc instead of sc, and that was perfect. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.

What I Did: I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

Rnds 1 and 2: White
Rnd 3:
Light Gray
Rnd 4:
Pewter
Rnd 5: White
Rnd 6:
Light Gray
Rnd 7:
Pewter
Rnd
 8: White
Rnd 9: Light Gray
Rnd 10:
Pewter
Rnd
11: White

This square required mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.
