Shawl or Scarf? Knit This Convertible Pattern Today – Viola! – Expression Fiber Arts | A Positive Twist on Yarn

Viola was designed by Kayla Baldwin. When asked about her pattern, Kayla said, “Delight in the beauty of a blooming garden around your neck with the Viola shawl and scarf pattern. This airy lace design features an intertwined pattern of flowers and vines for a lightweight, romantic accessory. The pointed edge scarf and shawl versions are worked from tip to tip with simple increases and decreases, and the rectangular shawl version is a simple, straightforward knit. Viola is an easy knit that’s perfect for showing off hand-dyed yarns. Create a delicate, floral accessory that will elevate any outfit with feminine charm in just a few afternoons. For knitters craving an effortlessly elegant, lace design, the Viola pattern delivers a touch of springtime style. Let your look blossom with its delicate beauty!”

This Adventurous Beginner level pattern is for knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include lacework, simple shaping, I-cord edging, and (optional) beading.

Viola is knitted with our soft and smooth Yak Silk Fingering yarn, which is a buttery, shimmery, three-ply blend of 50% yak and 50% mulberry silk. When yak is combined with silk, you get an amazing, soft, lustrous, creamy, rich, vibrant yarn that is impossible to ignore! Warm, strong, and breathable! This fingering weight yarn is ideal for sensual shawls, scarves, baby clothes, socks, hats, whatever you desire! Yak Silk Fingering has a generous 500 yds/457 m per skein.

We used two skeins of Sillage Yak Silk Fingering to knit the scarf sample shown here and two skeins of In a Galaxy Far Far Away Yak Silk Fingering for the shawl sample with pointed ends. The rectangular shawl sample was made with two skeins of Scarlet Yak Silk Fingering.

We made a video tutorial showing how to work a few stitches that are featured in this pattern. Take a look!

The pattern includes written and charted instructions.
