The Crochet Layers to Love Review
A Bit About the Author

I first met Salena years ago – was it before her first book? I’m not sure, she’s become such a prolific author and designer! Here’s her author blub:
“I learned to crochet at the age of 5 and haven’t put my hook down since! I’ve published over 500 patterns, authored 16 crochet books, taught 2 courses with Craftsy, and launched the American Crochet Association. I currently live in Oregon with my cute family and loud dog.”
Let’s take a closer look at her newest book!

Inside
“Crocheting your own tops is easier than you think! Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience with crochet, this collection is made for you. The patterns are approachable, quick, and adjustable for a range of sizes, allowing you to create pieces that fit your body and your style.

You’ll find a variety of comfortable tank tops, a cozy cropped sweater, a breezy cotton poncho, and light, airy tops that you can easily layer over outfits you already have in your wardrobe. The best part? These pieces are versatile for year-round wear—over long sleeves in cooler months and with tank tops and dresses in warmer weather. You’ll be ready for any season. If you love crochet, these tops for layering were designed to be your new favorites. Let’s get started!
- 8 beautiful crochet designs, including tank tops, a cropped sweater, a poncho, and three short-sleeve tops
- Sizes S–XXL
- Written and designed by humans, for humans”

is a thin, quick volume of patterns that gets right to the point! After the table of contents and a quick intro, we jump right into the patterns. And it’s a lovely selection! This book is perfect for spring, going into summer. There are lots of light layers and airy over pieces!

Both the stitches and the construction on these are simple and beginner-friendly. Lion Brand yarns are used throughout, making these projects budget-friendly as well. There are schematics to help you assemble the pieces, and the instructions look clear and well-written in standard US terms and format.

One thing I should point out is that not all the patterns in include the full size range – a couple stop at size Large. I’m not sure why those two patterns don’t include the larger sizes, and I do think an experienced and determined maker could upsize them if desired.

Otherwise, this is a great book of patterns perfect for the coming months, and approachable for all skill levels!
