Hello, beautiful! This week, I have two versions of a delightful crochet cardigan that I think you’re going to love. If you’re a fan of tapestry crochet or have been wanting to try it out, then this pattern is for you. Keep reading to learn more about this unique design!
Tartan was designed by Elisabeth Carr. When asked about her pattern, Elisabeth said, “Tartan is a lightweight cardigan that uses three different colors to create a beautiful plaid pattern. The pattern is created using a method called tapestry crochet, which is a very simple way to introduce more complicated colorwork. This cardigan is constructed by making three flat panels, which are sewn together, and then the sleeves are worked into the body.”
This Intermediate level pattern is for crocheters who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include Front and Back Post Double Crochet, decrease stitches, changing colors, blocking, and finishing techniques.
The Tartan cardigan is offered in sizes XS: 32” (S/M: 36/40”; L/XL: 44/48”; 2XL/3XL: 52/56”) and is intended to be worn with 2 – 4” of positive ease for size XS and 2 – 8″ positive ease for sizes S – 3XL. Instructions are included to customize the length or overall size.
The short-sleeve version of Tartan was crocheted with our luxurious Mirage Sport yarn, which is wonderfully soft with gorgeous drape, amazing structure, and a subtle gleam. This heavenly, 3-ply yarn is ideal for heirloom blankets and shawls, hats, scarves, sweaters, and much more. A dream to work with and wear! Mirage Sport is a blend of 70% Superwash Merino Wool, 10% Natural Baby Camel, 10% Cashmere, and 10% Mulberry Silk with 350 yds/320 m per skein.
We used our cozy Nesting Hues Mirage Sport Kit [350 yds/320 m per skein (1,050 yds/960 m per three-skein kit)] to crochet the short-sleeve sample shown here. Size XS can be crocheted with one Nesting Hues Mirage Sport kit, but all other sizes require two Nesting Hues Mirage Sport kits.
The long-sleeve version was crocheted with our luxurious Wishglow Sport yarn, which is a heavenly, delectable blend of 50% Superwash Fine Merino Wool (19.5 micron) and 50% Mulberry Silk that’s unbelievably soft with a dreamy, shimmering glow. Light and airy, this yarn is perfect for flowing shawls, super soft garments, silky accessories, and more! This two-ply yarn has 383 yds/350 m per 100-gram skein. A joy to work with and wear! Supple and shining with beautiful stitch definition!
For the long-sleeve sample shown here, we used colors: A) Coconut Cream, B) Clary Sage, and C) Galene Wishglow Sport. Size XS can be crocheted with one skein EACH of three colors of Wishglow Sport (three skeins total). All other sizes require six skeins of Wishglow Sport (two skeins EACH of three colors).
