Crochet This Beginner Friendly Cowl Today – Photoperiodic! – Expression Fiber Arts | A Positive Twist on Yarn

Hello, sweet soul! Today, I have a lovely, crocheted cowl pattern to share with you. I think you’re going to truly enjoy making this delightful, autumnal design! Keep reading to learn all about it!

Crochet This Beginner Friendly Cowl Today – Photoperiodic! – Expression Fiber Arts | A Positive Twist on Yarn

Photoperiodic was designed by Cari Jehlik. When asked about her pattern, Cari said, “Photoperiodism is the scientific term for the change in leaf color in the fall. This cowl nods to the changes in colors of the leaves and gives the opportunity for a meditative crochet experience. Worked primarily in linen stitch, this cowl’s simplicity belies its end beauty. The experience is just as rewarding as the end product.”

“Available in three sizes, this pattern lets you choose what you’re in the mood for, and the cowl’s color scheme allows for many color variations. Your imagination is your only limit to personalization.”

This is a Beginner to Adventurous Beginner level pattern that is perfect for crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Skills include working into the back loop or front loop only, sc2tog, and changing colors.

Photoperiodic is crocheted with our sumptuous Beacon DK yarn, which is a delightfully soft and deliciously shimmery blend of 25% Baby Camel, 25% Mulberry Silk, and 50% Lyocell. This silky, luxurious yarn produces beautiful stitch definition and wonderful drape. It’s an 8-ply yarn (four sets of two plies) with ultra shine and longevity. Beacon DK is incredibly versatile and can be knitted or crocheted into an endless number of wonderful items with 250 yds/228 m per skein.

We used our stunning Autumnal Hues Beacon DK Kit [250 yds/228 m per skein (1,000 yds/915 m per four-skein kit)] to make the samples shown here. The pattern is offered in three sizes (Small, Medium, and Large) and used 200 yds (183 m), 475 yds (434 m), or 740 yds (677 m) based on the selected size. The yarn colors were worked in the following order: A) Gold, B) Tan, C) Green, and D) Purple.

We made a video tutorial for this beautiful pattern! Grab your hook and some yarn, and crochet a few rounds with me!
